Soleded, located in the metropolitan area of Barranquilla, is an undiscovered cultural and artistic gem on Colombia’s Caribbean coast.
The city, founded in 1598, has around 600,000 inhabitants and is the sixth most inhabited place in Colombia.
As well as its historic monuments, one of its main tourism attractions is the Aeronautical Museum of Soledad, which has an important collection of aeronautical history, science and technology.
Soledad’s rich culinary tradition also makes the city worth a visit. The butifarra (a dried Catalan sausage) is said to have come to Colombia via this city.
The city has many industries, such as the pharmaceutical industries and the generation of thermo-electric energy.
The municipality Soledad’s vision is to become “the greatest leader with respect to life in the Atlantic department, being a hub of urban coexistence and social development, based on artistic and culture training, based on the collective memory and its history.”
