Social democrat Gustavo Petro has taken a minor lead in Colombia’s presidential election race, according to the latest poll.
Pollster Invamer said that 23.5% of the polled voters said they would vote for Petro, a former Bogota mayor, if elections were held tomorrow.
The runner up in the poll, former Medellin mayor Sergio Fajardo can only count on 21.6% of support in the latest Invamer poll.
Fajardo had been leading in the six months prior to the latest poll.
Conservatives taking part in the race have not yet been able to obtain a spot in the virtual second round of elections.
The most popular of conservative candidates is former Vice-President German Vargas who received 14.8% of support.
The three candidates of the hard right coalition of former president Alvaro Uribe seems to have lost much of its electoral support.
If Ivan Duque is chosen to become Uribe’s candidate, he would receive 9.2% of the votes. Former Defense Minister Marta Lucia Ramirez can only count on 7.8% of support.

Virtually all polls indicate that no conservative candidate would make it to the second round. This would be unprecedented in the country where elections have traditionally been dominated by the Liberal Party and the Conservative Party.
The outcome of the elections does not depend entirely on the preference of the people. Electoral observers have already warned about possible fraudulent voter registrations.
