Serbia asked Colombia to arrest Agim Ceku, former commander of the
ethnic Albanian Kosovo Liberation Army and former Prime Minister of
Kosovo, who is accused of the murder of hundreds of Serbs.
According to Serbian news station B92, the Colombian office of Interpol had notified Serbian authorities that the former military commander and political leader is currently in Colombia.
Ceku is wanted by Serbian justice for his alleged responsibility in the murder of 669 Serbs and 18 people of other ethnicities during the 1999 revolt for independence of the Serbian province. The UN International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia does not consider Ceku a war criminal.
According to B92, Colombia notified Serbia’s Interior Minister Ivica Dacic that arresting and extraditing Ceku may be difficult, since Colombia’s law would prevent detention and extradition of foreign nationals wanted for acts committed prior to 2005.
“They asked us to use diplomatic channels to further discuss the possibility of Ceku’s detention,” Dacic told B92.
