Colombian seismologists say the seismic activity of the Galera volcano
in the southern Nariño department is decreasing. Authorities stay on
highest alert after the volcano suddenly erupted Saturday.
According to experts keeping an eye on the volcano, its activity has decreased significantly. “The volcano has been quiet and silent,” Marta Calvache, director of Ingeominas, told Caracol Radio.
However, the red alert remains and authorities continue to urge people living near the volcano to evacuate.
Many of the farmers living near the volcano refuse to be evacuated and leave their cattle and houses unattended.
According to Caracol, the locations designated to shelter refugees are empty, except for the relief workers staying there.
