Colombia’s Presidential Guard and protesters clashed over the pay and pensions of retired police and military at the Presidential Palace in Bogota Wednesday.
The security personnel closed the gates to the palace, which typically remain open, and fired tear gas to disperse protesters, according to local media.
The Palace is the official house and workplace of the Colombian President, Juan Manuel Santos.
Estimates put the crowd of retired soldiers and retired police at between 100 and 500.
Protesters marched through the streets of Bogota before arriving at the palace to demand better pay and allowances.
Media reported moments of chaos before palace security quelled the crowd.
