The son of Colombian president Juan Manuel Santos on Thursday published a selfie with his father’s predecessor and fiercest political opponent, Senator Alvaro Uribe, in support of a campaign to promote peace and reconciliation.
Santos published his photo with Uribe –not the real one but a portrait — on Twitter accompanied with the hashtag #SoyCapaz (I am able), which has been promoted by the country’s corporations, media and Catholic church to promote reconciliation while the government is negotiating peace with the country’s largest rebel group, the FARC.

The hashtag has been used by all kinds of prominent Colombians to support the reconciliation campaign of business association ANDI and supported by almost all Colombia’s mass media and a vast number of stars.
The former president’s involuntary involvement in the #SoyCapaz campaign is ironic as Uribe has been staunch a opponent of the peace talks and has rejected to join the dozens of famous Colombians who voluntarily spoke out in favor of the campaign.
According to the former president, the negotiations legitimize the FARC whose 50-year-long war against the government has left millions of victims. The controversial former president is facing multiple accusations of involvement in war crimes, political persecution and ties to paramilitary groups.
