Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos has set a government target to compensate 151,000 victims of the civil conflict in 2013, according to a government press release on Wednesday.
Santos stated that the government will continue to help people affected by armed conflict, promising that “the quality and quantity of psychosocial support to victims” will be improved in 2013.
The Colombian President also highlighted the achievements of 2012, wherein 157,013 victims of violence were compensated, allegedly exceeding the year’s target by 47%.
Local media also highlighted the government’s plans to assist with the return of 30 communities that have been displaced from their homes in the Colombian departments of Putumayo, Guaviare, and La Guajira.
Santos made the comments on Wednesday at a reparation ceremony for victims of the armed conflict in Colombia’s capital.
