Colombia’s Advisory Commission on Foreign Affairs endorsed the decision of Juan Manuel Santos to restore relations with Venezuela and Ecuador by the end of the year, reported Caracol Radio.
The commission, composed of former presidents and foreign ministers, gave “unconditional support” to Santos’ strategy of reconciliation, according to Foreign Minister Maria Angela Holguin.
They also expressed support for his call for UNASUR to fully support the Correa administration in Ecuador.
While there has been progress in talks with both of the countries, a date for official restoration of relations has not yet been set.
Holguin also said disputes with Nicaragua over San Andres and conflicts with Ecuador over the spraying of illicit crops along the border are expected to be solved in 2012 at the International Court of Justice at The Hague.
