Colombia news - Santos

Colombia’s President Juan Manuel Santos from his website Tuesday congratulated the national soccer team for their outstanding victory against Chile in the quest of reaching Brazil for the World Cup in 2014.

After the talented “Cafeteros” produced a clinical second-half performance to come from behind and beat the Chileans 3-1 in the World Cup qualification match in Santiago on Tuesday, Santos sent his congratulations to the national selection.

During a telephone conversation with Jose Pekerman, the technical director of the group, the president spoke with pride as he praised the Colombian soccer team.

“I want to congratulate them from all of my heart, from my family, from the government and from the 47 million Colombians,” said Santos to Pekerman who would transfer the message to the rest of the team as well.

The president also sent a special message to Falcao Garcia, James Rodriguez and Teofilo Gutierrez in particular, the athletes that scored goals against the Chileans.

“A very special congratulations to the three that scored: to Falcao, to James and to Teo; but to the whole team, the whole team and you director Pekerman,” said Santos as the Colombian group advances in their goal of reaching the next World Cup.

“A new triumph, and we move ahead with the objective of reaching Brazil in 2014,” the president concluded. Santos also received appreciation from the soccer team’s coach during their conversation for his permanent support of the national selection.

The victory against Chile means “Los Cafeteros” leapfrog their opponents in the CONMEBOL table and maintain their quest for Brazil 2014 qualification.
