Former Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos is not on Interpol’s ‘Red Notice‘ list, despite the order for his arrest issued by an Ecuadorean judge.
The judge Monday ordered Santos’ arrest for his alleged responsibility for the death of an Ecuadorean
citizen in the March 1, 2008 bombing of a FARC camp just across the
Ecuadorean border.
Lawyer, ex DAS director and El Espectador columnist Ramiro Bejarano told El Espectador that for Interpol to include Santos on the list, the Ecuadorean government would have to solicit a petition for his arrest through Interpol headquarters in Lyon, France.
Even then Interpol would have the power to accept or reject the petition, according to Bejarano.
Colombian President Alvaro Uribe announced Thursday he plans to form a judicial team high
level attorneys to defend “anyone who needs judicial assistance on an
international level.”
He said he will not allow
anyone to “touch” Santos.
