Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos referred to the creation of the Pacific Alliance as “one of the most important events in Latin America,” Caracol Radio reported Wednesday.
The alliance “will represent more jobs for Colombia, and more prosperity at this time in a troubled economy,” said the Colombian head of state.
The commercial and economic alliance brings together the market of more than 200 million consumers, representing more than 50% of Latin American exports.
Santos spoke from the Chilean city of Antofagasta where the leaders of Colombia, Chile, Peru and Mexico met today to inaugurate the new partnership.
Santos also emphasized that the door is open for other countries to join the union.
