Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos announced that he has appointed new Colombian ambassadors to Venezuela and Germany.
The president said via Twitter that “I have appointed Barranquilla businessman Carlos Cure as the new ambassador of Colombia to the government of Venezuela.”
Cure, a civil engineer with extensive private-sector experience, replaces Jose Fernando Bautista after he resigned May 16 amid the discovery of emails linking him to the the disgraced Nule Group construction firm. He had only been appointed in August 2010.
In the same manner, Santos also announced that “I have appointed Juan Mayr as the new ambassador of Colombia in Germany.”
Mayr, the former environment minister, is particularly known for his work in the field of ecology and natural preservation, winning a prize in 1993 for his efforts to protect biodiversity in Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, in the north of Colombia.
Polo Democratico Congressman Ivan Cepeda recently called on Santos to replace all “questionable” ambassadors with current judicial proceedings against them, although these personnel changes are unrelated.
