Sanclemente not too beautiful for prison: Argentine court

An Argentine appeals court on Tuesday ruled that it would not grant Colombian suspected cartel boss and former model Angie Sanclemente a prison waiver on her arrest, on the grounds that her freedom could “impede the investigation,” reported EFE.

The request for a waiver was submitted in March by Sanclemente’s lawyer, Guillermo Tiscornia, who said that the woman, thought to be living as a fugitive in Buenos Aires, was unlikely to surrender herself to the police because she was afraid of being mistreated in prison.

“In the prison waiver request that we submitted,” explained Tiscornia, “we contended that a woman like her, of statuesque beauty, is afraid of being violated, attacked in prison, physically or sexually.”

Buenos Aires’ criminal appeals court rejected the request, however, saying that Sanclemente’s charges are “particularly serious” and waiver would therefore “delay judicial action.”

The former Colombian beauty queen is wanted by police after Interpol issued a warrant for her arrest on suspicion that she was running a cocaine trafficking cartel.

According to the arrest warrant, the suspect is accused of using a team of glamorous young models and beauty queens – women that she refers to as her “unsuspicious, beautiful angels” – to transport cocaine from her home in Argentina to locations in Western Europe.

Police have arrested three women involved in the drug-trafficking cartel, and 30-year-old Sanclemente is currently a fugitive from justice.
