The Comptroller General’s Office identified a list of 21 concession contracts to fix Colombian roadways that have overrun their original cost by up to ten times more than projected in their original budgets, RCN radio reported Wednesday.
The Bogota-Villavicencia highway project, which was contracted out to cost $42 million, ended up costing taxpayers about $300 million.
Other over-budget projects include the Armenia-Pereira Menizales highway, the Giradot Cajamarca highway and the Caribbean Route, among others.
Comptroller Sandra Moreli asked Congress to revise the legislation of roadwork concessions and to curb the practice of adding resources to keep the projects from costing so much more than originally budgeted in their contracts.
