Authorities in the south west of Colombia are investigating whether a road-side bomb found on the Panamerican highway in the Cauca department was meant for presidential candidate, Rafael Pardo who was traveling that road on Sunday.
The Liberal Party candidate had planned to visit the department, which has recently seen a surge of violence between government troops and guerrillas of the FARC.
Pardo was forced to temporarily suspend his travels after local police found the bomb on the road connecting Cali with Popayan, the capital of Cauca.
“The police informed us of a bomb on the road that was deactivated by anti-explosives units. Luckily, the only consequence was a delay in our planning,” Pardo told local press.
Colombian presidential candidates are traveling all over the country as the May 30 presidential elections draw near.
