The river Cauca flooded parts of the town Nechí in Antioquia after a
dam broke. Part of the town is threatened to be wiped away by the
strong current of the water. Thousands of people are evacuated.
The dam, protecting the town from the river, broke early Tuesday morning under increasing pressure of the rising river, allowing huge quantities of water to enter the town.
Authorities have begun the evacuation of at least 15 thousand people that live in areas threatened by the water.
The high waterlevel of the Cauca is a result of extreme rainfall up stream. The heavy rains that struck Colombia since mid September already led to the death of nearly 40 people.
