Colombian rescue agencies are prepared for the 2012 rainy season, reported the National Disaster Unit Wednesday.
The director of the National Disaster Unit Carlos Ivan Marquez told local media that more than 700,000 people have been assigned to various relief agencies throughout Colombia in preparation for disasters caused by the 2012 rainy season.
Ivan reported that the government agency is rigorously monitoring the Magdalena, Cauca, and Atrato rivers, as well as departments that face severe winter weather and are considered “high risk.”
He reported that this year about $8.4 million USD were put aside for this year’s rainy season and that $2.2 million has already been used to care for about 4,300 victims of flooding.
