The release of a group of FARC hostages held more than 12 years will begin on March 30, the Red Cross said Thursday.
Jordi Raich, a delegate from the International Committee of the Red Cross, said humanitarian groups would visit the central Colombian city of Villavicencio March 29 to finalize details, before the first group of hostages were released the following day.
He made the announcement after meeting Colombian government officials and members of former Senator Piedad Cordoba’s NGO, Colombians for Peace.
Cordoba’s delegation will travel to Brazil March 28 to pick up a helicopter and fly Villavicencio the next day.
The first group of the ten security force hostages are expected to return to their homes after a day of rest. The second release will happen April 1, said Cordoba.
