The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) will work with any
foreign government that helps facilitate the release of six hostages
that is expected in the coming weeks. The Colombian Government so far
has rejected any foreign involvement in the humanitarian mission.
According to ICRC spokesman Yves Heller, the aid organization doesn’t have any helicopters in Colombia at the moment. He doesn’t rule out the use of helicopters of Colombia’s neighbor Venezuela in the rescue operation.
The Colombian Government has ruled out any foreign interference in the release, but has been quiet about possible foreign involvement after rebel group FARC last week demanded at least one foreign “guarantor” to be present at the release.
The ICRC is currently working on the logistics of the operation with opposition senator and mediator Piedad Córdoba.
