Colombia news - Falcao

Spanish soccer club Real Madrid would pay up to approximately $63 million to sign Colombian striker Radamel Falcao for next season.

According to local media, “El Tigre” is first on the radar of Real Madrid in their search to sign a new player for the following season.

Due in part to the expressed sadness and unknown future of Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, rumors have circulated that the team’s president Florentino Perez and the club have sought out Falcao to join their team.

The Colombian soccer phenomenon became a champion of the European League and European Cup with Atletico Madrid.

Falcao’s agent Jorge Mendes, who also represents Ronaldo and Real coach Jose Mourinho, has allegedly approached the Colombian with offers.

“I have pushed the matter with his representative Jorge Mendes and it’s possible that they already know within the mattress makers’ club [Atletico]. Also, it’s an election year and this would help Florentino,” said Spanish reporter Pipi Estrada.

Atletico Madrid allegedly paid nearly $50.5 million for the Colombian striker a year ago, and according to Spanish television show Punto Pelota, Real Madrid would pay up to $63 million.

Enrique Cerezo, president of Atletico Madrid, said that this is not the only offer that Falcao has received. Offers have allegedly arrived from England’s Chelsea FC, France’s Paris Saint-Germain FC, and Russia’s FC Anzhi Makhachkala.

Currently the striker superstar is concentrated on the Colombian selection for the 2014 Brazil World Cup qualifiers, focusing on the upcoming game against Uruguay in the northern Colombian city of Barranquilla on Friday.
