Colombia news - Jose Mourinho

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho admitted Thursday he was slightly saddened after his side inflicted the heaviest defeat in the history of Colombian soccer giants Millonarios with an 8-0 rout at the Bernabau Stadium.

Madrid tore apart the Bogota club with Brazilian Kaka the star of the show with a hat trick in the Spanish capital on Wednesday evening.

The victory meant that the reigning La Liga champions claimed the Santiago Bernabeu Trophy in honor of the legendary Alfredo Di Stefano who former player of both teams.

While obviously delighted to earn the victory, Mourinho was however slightly disappointed in the performance of his opponents, admitting that he had expected much more of a competition.

“We’ve seen in videos and their players are better than then showed,” said the Real Madrid coach.

“We wanted to win the silverware of our stadium for a consecutive year; we attacked their self-esteem, as it is in the head which is so important to them,” Mourinho added.

Nevertheless, the result “makes me sad, because eight goals is a lot, but I know that their team is worth more than what they have shown.”

His opposite number Hernan Torres agreed with Mourinho that the defeat, which was the worst in the club’s history, was a huge psychological blow.

“It is a blow to lose 8-0, but this is from players who have character and high status. We know that if we go forward we must improve our psychological state and also football skills. “ said the Millonarios head coach.
