Colombia’s prosecutor general asks the Constitutional Court to make permanent two amendments to the constitution added in response to the disastrous rainy season in 2010, reports W Radio.
The decrees in question are 4702, issued on December 21, and 4830, an amendment to 4702 issued on December 29.
Both concern the transfer of resources from the National Calamity Fund which was set up during the unusually heavy rainy season, which the government declared a national disaster. The aim was to facilitate coordination between the government and territorial authorities, both public and private, so as to streamline the release of funds without bureaucratic delay.
Prosecutor General Alejandro Ordoñez said that the measures taken during last year’s extensive flooding were necessary to provide those affected with aid quickly and efficiently.
The court will analyze Ordoñez’s request and submit a study to the chamber in the coming days.
