Colombian Ombudsman Volmar Perez Ortiz denounced the murder of a Colombian citizen in the Venezuelan state of Delta Amacuro.
21 year old Luis Gerardo Portilla was killed by unknown assailants who approached him on his way back to his house in the Venezuelan city of Tucupita, WRadio reported Tuesday.
Perez said that this raises to 20 the number of Colombians killed in Venezuela since August of this year.
The Ombudsman was contacted by the deceased man’s family and asked to repatriate the body.
Diplomatic relations between Colombia and Venezuela have been tense over the last few months.
An amateur Colombian soccer team was kidnapped on October 11 and later found dead except for one survivor.
Venezuela justified the murders by claiming that the soccer team were paramilitary fighters and part of a Colombian conspiracy to destabilize Venezuela.
The Colombian-Venezuelan border has also been a source of tension in recent months.
