Colombia’s Prosecutor General’s office will stop the investigations against three former directors of intelligence agency DAS on their alleged role in the wiretapping of government critics, newspaper El Espectador reported Monday.
According to the newspaper, the decision will be made public in a few days and is likely to cause great controversy as even foreign government have demanded results in the scandal involving the state intelligence agancy illegally spying on Supreme Court magistrates, human rights workers, politicians and members of the church.
Directors Joaquín Polo, Andrés Peñate and María del Pilar Hurtado are suspected of having led the DAS, while its officials were conducting illegal activities. The investigation against former director Jorge Noguera, who is accused of having set up the illegal wiretapping unit will still be investigated.
