Colombian President Alvaro Uribe and his Defense Minister Gabriel Silva will be heard by the State Council Tuesday concerning the proposal to allow USA forces in Colombia, said Monday the high court president Rafael Ostau De Lafont Pianetta.
The Colombian constitution obliges the government to have the green light from the State Council before allowing foreign troops to enter the country.
“If we are satisfied by the President’s presentation, we’ll issue a positive concept. It could happen that we request further probe.” Ostau said.
The proposal to allow American troops in up to seven Colombian military installations has fueled tensions with some of the country’s neighbors.
