The Colombian government has rejected the recent release of suspected guerillas, and of seventeen soldiers accused of extrajudicial executions.
The soldiers and the guerrillas were released after judges ruled that the suspects hadn’t been granted a trial within the legal time-limit. All are now awaiting their trials in freedom.
According to a statement read by Presidential Press Secretary Cesar Mauricio Velasquez, the government rejects these releases. The releases demotivate the country’s police forces who are working for the capture of suspected criminals like the ones released, said Velasquez.
The government proposes that the term expiration dates are not applied to the trials of those suspected of heinous crimes or of grave human rights violations.
