More than $2.5 million fake U.S. banknotes have been confiscated by police after being discovered in Cali, El Pais reported Tuesday.
Colonel Wilson Baron, deputy commander of the local police, explained that police found 6,400 printed sheets, each containing four counterfeit $100 bills. The net total of $2.56 million in fake currency was seized along with the printer used to produce the banknotes.
According to investigators, the counterfeit bills were produced in the space of one week and were fabricated in the San Nicolas neighbourhood of Cali, Valle del Cauca.
One person has been arrested thus far in connection with the counterfeit operation and will wait to be charged by the prosecutor general’s office.
