Police, in cooperation with Interpol, seized 1.5 tons of cocaine in a storage facility in Buenaventura, Colombia’s main port on the Pacific coast.
According to the authorities, the drugs, allegedly worth $45 million, were found in a storage facility in the port of Buenaventura, Valle del Cauca.
The drugs were hidden in a shipment of building materials that had been tightly wrapped in plastic to hide the smell from authorities.
However, a gas test revealed the presence of cocaine after which the police opened the shipment and found the drugs.
The police said the shipment was intended to be shipped Mexico, after which the cocaine would be shipped to Europe.
Authorities were unable to identify which criminal organization is behind the drug shipment; Buenaventura is home to both La Empresa, a local criminal group, and the Urabeños, Colombia’s largest drug trafficking organization.
