Police raided the so-called “Bronx” street of Colombia’s capital Bogota Wednesday in an effort to quash drug trafficking in the area, reported newspaper El Espectador.
The raid was in response to citizen complaints about drug dealing on the central Bogota street, where rampant crime has led to the comparison to the troubled neighborhood in New York City.
After a series of searches and raids carried out by a special unit of the Bogota Metropolitan Police ending Wednesday morning, police had arrested six recognized drug dealers, seized six kilos of cocaine base, five pounds of marijuana, 360 grams of pure cocaine, 6,000 doses of crack cocaine, 10,000 bottles of bootlegged liquor, 30 identification documents and recovered 30 bicycles.
The police announced that they will to continue the fight drug dealing in the “Bronx,” not only to combat drug use but to stem the flow of drugs to other points of sale in Bogota.
