A DEA official has been killed in the early hours of Friday morning in Colombia’s capital Bogota, after suffering apparent knife wounds, the US ambassador confirmed.
The murder victim whose identity remains unknown, is believed to have belonged to US anti-drug organization, the DEA, though there have been no links made so far between the man’s job and his death.
According to a preliminary report the man left a restaurant in northern Bogota at 1.30 on Friday morning and was next found abandoned in the El Chico sector, with several knife wounds. A passing citizen then alerted the authorities who took the 40-year-old man to an emergency clinic, where he died from his injuries.
The US ambassador to Bogota, Michael McKinley, told Caracol Radio the official had been the victim of a robbery and called on Bogota citizens to collaborate with local police to find the perpetrators of the attack.
The local police are currently investigating into any possible clues as to the motivation for the American citizen’s murder.
