Police intercepted a large consignment of explosives apparently intended for FARC guerillas in Colombia’s southern Caqueta Department, reported local media.
Caqueta police uncovered 3571.5 lbs explosives in 17 cases, each containing almost 200lbs of ammonium nitrate, in a warehouse in the departmental capital Florencia.
Ammonium nitrate is used by FARC to prepare “cylinder bombs, landmines and a variety of unconventional explosive devices,” said Caqueta police commander Colonel Carlos Vargas.
Police added they were investigating whether there was a “terrorist support network within some companies that would allow FARC to violate the security protocols of these transport companies.”
According to El Tiempo, the packages appear to have been sent from Bogota, Sibate, and Cota, in central Cundinamarca Department.
