Colombian police found 122 anti-personnel landmines in an alleged FARC cache in San Luis, a municipality in eastern Antioquia, newspaper El Colombiano reported Thursday.
Authorities suspected the stash of explosives belonged to the FARC’s 9th Front.
Found among the landmines were 60 ammonium nitrate fuel oil (ANFO) bombs and other weapon components. Just over 16 pounds of explosives were discovered altogether, a relatively small amount compared to the 100 pounds of explosives found in the Nariño department just a few months ago.
Anti-personnel landmines have been a point of focus for human rights groups around the world. In April 2011, Colombians recognized an International Day for Landmine Awareness, acknowledging that Colombia is second only to Afghanistan in counting victims of landmines.
The police did not detain any suspects in the raid.
