Corrupt Bogota policemen are suspected of being complicit in the operations of a fake brothel used to kidnap and torture clients, Caracol Radio reported Wednesday.
During the hearing for eleven of the alleged kidnappers, the prosecutor general “denounced the presumed complicity of the police.”
According to the radio station, the prosecutor of the case said that the band was able to operate for months because they paid dividends to the agents in charge of security in the area. This was backed by the investigator of the case.
The band of 15 kidnappers, including four minors, — composed of a group of sex workers who had been operating in the Santa Fe neighborhood in the center of Bogota — were detained Tuesday night in an operation by the Technical Investigation Team (CTI) of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The suspects were accused of luring victims to the brothel and then torturing them once inside. Victims were beaten and forced to give up their belongings and the pincodes to their credit cards, and detained for hours while the criminals withdrew their money from ATMs.
During the trial, the prosecutor general exposed various pistols, machetes, and machines for giving electric shocks to the victims.
Various illicit drugs and feminine garments were also found on the premises.
