Authorities announced Tuesday that they arrested a FARC leader they believe to be responsible for the Nariño bus attack in which seven people were killed.
The National Police arrested a man identified as Adriano Garcia Nastacuaz in a coastal town in the Nariño department. Garcia Nastacua alias ‘Macarena’ is believed to be the leader of the FARC’s Mariscal Sucre Column, along with alleged fellow mastermind Edgar Antonio Rodriguez, alias ‘Carraspo’, who remains at large.
Police alleged that the FARC attacked the intercity bus travelling between the cities of Cali and Pasto on November 20. The rebels allegedly opened fire and when the driver refused to stop, proceeded to incinerate the vehicle without allowing passengers to disembark.
Police offered a reward of COP500 million (US$250,000) for information leading to their capture.
Authorities said the arrest will help them to establish who is responsible for the attack in which three minors and four adults died, Caracol Radio reported.
