Colombian police have captured on Wednesday seven suspected drug traffickers, identified as partners of the notorious drug lord “El Palidejo.”
The seven detainees were allegedly part of a drug trafficking organization that specialized in transporting cocaine from the Colombian Pacific to Central America. It has been estimated that the group was capable of transporting up to four tons (approximately 3.6 thousand kilos) of cocaine at a time, according to newspaper El Espectador.
After months of investigation police were able to capture the drug trafficking organization that was allegedly responsible for helping Costa Rican mafia boss Alejandro Jimenez, alias El Palidejo, enter Colombia illegally and hide in the western Choco department.
El Palidejo was arrested in Colombia March earlier this year after been accused of ordering the hit that killed Argentine folk singer Facundo Cabral in Guatemala in July 2011. The hit was allegedly meant to kill his ex-business partner Henry Fariñas. El Palidejo is currently been held in Guatemala awaiting trial.
Police director General Jose Roberto Leon is expected to give more details of the investigation in the following hours.
