The high crime rate in Colombian capital Bogotá is to blame on the courts, police commander Rodolfo Palomino said Monday.
According to the police chief, the courts’ lack of cooperation results the release of many criminals that were caught by the police just hours before, mostly because of procedural faults.
“That is said and worrying,” Palomino told W Radio.
The police commander gave the example of an incident that happened a few days ago when the police caught eleven armed men with firearms on surprise. An exchange of fire preceeded the arrest. “When these detainees were arraigned, the judge said that if we knew there were delinquents hiding we should have gotten a search warrant and not get involved in a shoot out,” Palomino said.
The police commander stated the judicial officials are undoing the work of the police. Judicial sources weren’t quoted to have responded.
