Police arrest 42 drug gang suspects

Forty-two suspected members of drug gang “Los Paisas” were arrested in the Caribbean cities of Cartagena and Barranquilla, local police announced Thursday.

The detainees are being investigated for alleged contract killing, extortion, recruitment of minors, drug and arms trafficking, robbery, and conspiracy.

In the Cartagena raid, police confiscated ammunition, cash and a computer.

Los Paisas are one of many criminal groups that emerged from the demobilized paramilitary organization AUC, and are considered one of the groups guilty of a majority of murders in the two coastal cities.
