Colombian police announce the arrest of fifteen people accused of exporting FARC-produced drugs to foreign markets, El Espectador reported Wednesday.
According to authorities, the men, who were arrested in eastern Colombia, were the FARC’s main contact for sending drugs through Central America, and onwards towards the United States and Europe.
Authorities claim that the group worked with FARC commanders in the departments of Cauca, Meta, and Valle del Cauca to move drugs from the point of production.
The arrests come as part of Colombian authorities’ strategy of attacking the FARC by cutting off the their funding from narco-trafficking.
Police claim that the FARC are responsible for 70% of the cocaine produced in Colombia, and that many of their units have virtually transformed themselves into full-fledged drug cartels.
