The on-again, off-again plea deal for a reputed Colombian drug lord in jail in the U.S. is apparently back on again.
Court records showed Wednesday that Jaime Alberto Marin-Zamora, best known as “Beto” Marin, is scheduled to plead guilty to U.S. drug charges in early October.
The document does not specify the charges or provide other details. Marin-Zamora’s attorney did not immediately respond to an e-mail seeking comment.
Marin-Zamora had initially planned to plead guilty in June. But that deal collapsed because Marin-Zamora refused to agree to a potential life prison sentence.
Marin-Zamora is accused of being a kingpin in Colombia’s North Valley Cartel. He was arrested by Venezuelan authorities in September 2010 at a resort off the Venezuelan coast and brought to the U.S. to face cocaine trafficking conspiracy charges.
