Colombia aims to develop its nautical tourism industry to bring more tourists to the Caribbean coast, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism announced Friday.
A joint forum between public and private entities in the field was held in the popular tourist destination of Santa Marta Friday with the aim of including the Colombian coast in maritime routes between the Caribbean islands, Central and South America.
The Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Sergio Diaz-Granados opened the forum with a plan for yacht owners and local businessmen to develop projects of this nature with profitable results.
There are approximately two million pleasure boats such as sailboats and yachts in the Caribbean sea each year, said Diaz-Granados. Over $1 billion would be needed to develop the industry with 10 marinas and other tourism services.
