Colombia’s Labor Minister has announced plans to create 38,000 jobs in the coffee region, reports Caracol Radio.
Rafael Pardo said the joint venture between national and municipal governments would aim to strengthen education, training and investment, in the hopes of creating more jobs in the region.
The coffee region’s three departments — Risaralda, Quindio and Caldas — suffer from high rates of unemployment. The aim is to create 15,000 jobs in Pereira and Manizales, the capitals of Caldas and Pereira, and 8,000 across Quindio.
Pardo said the plan was to generate employment through tourism, call centers and the revival of different industries.
