Green Party candidate Enrique Peñalosa expanded the “Bogota Without Hunger” program on Thursday.
Peñalosa stood before the Nueva Timiza soup kitchen accompanied by former mayor Lucho Garzon to present the expansion of Bogota Without Hunger, a program launched by the Garzon administration in 2004.
At its launch the Green Party candidate stressed that the program was “implemented in 20 villages with 280 community kitchens, and benefited 667,264 people daily in Bogota while also delivering snacks to 372,000 school children.”
Peñalosa added that Bogota without Hunger has “helped to improve the nutritional status of the population, especially children.”
According to data from the Ministry of Health the rate of chronic malnutrition during this period decreased by 2.6 points in children younger than 12 years.
Peñalosa said “our commitment is to improve what we already have, so the backbone of my social agenda will be to combat hunger in the city.”
The Green Party candidate also says that he will draw on the experience and achievements of the Garzon administration to make improvements in the future.
