The start date of the peace talks between rebel guerrilla group FARC and the Colombian government has been delayed from October 8 and will now allegedly start on the 15th, according to FARC representatives.
Colombia’s largest guerrilla group released a statement to the press Monday saying that the peace talks will be further postponed to October 15, reported local media Tuesday.
FARC representatives announced that both sides also “agreed to make an unspecified ‘public announcement’ on the 17th” in the Norwegian capital Oslo, where talks are set to commence.
The disclosure was made to reporters in Havana, Cuba where negotiators are deciding on terms for the peace process. FARC did not provide justification for the delay and the Colombian authorities have not yet confirmed the FARC’s statement.
The announcement came just one day after the government said that the peace talks would be re-set for October 14. As of now, neither side has publicly communicated a coinciding set date for the beginning of negotiations in Norway.
