The production of a passion fruit and Viagra dessert was prohibited Tuesday following lab results which revealed the presence of a medical chemical.
The dessert, discovered by Colombian food technology students, combined passion fruit with Viagra to create a potentially popular new aphrodisiac. The producers were waiting for the go-ahead from health experts to launch their invention into the public market.
However, laboratory tests showing the presence of Sildenafil, Viagra’s active ingredient, within the dessert, led health agency Invima to state that using medication in food preparation violated sanitary standards and risked misleading the public, reported news site Terra on Tuesday.
Health authorities warned that the use of medicinal recipes, without seeking prior medical advice, could pose a serious risk to those who consume it and can cause undesired and unexpected results, especially for people with medical ailments such as heart conditions and hypertension.
Invima stated that Sildenafil is a medicine only available via prescription which has specific qualities and is aimed at a select sector of the population – it therefore cannot be consumed generally or without prior medical advice.
