Parody leads alliance with Mockus in Bogota mayoral race

Former mayor Antanas Mockus withdrew his candidacy for Bogota mayor Friday, after announcing an alliance with independent candidate and former Senator Gina Parody.

Following an eight-hour meeting, the two politicians agreed to let Parody lead the campaign with the support of Mockus.

Parody called Mockus’ decision to withdraw “the most generous gesture of Colombian politics” and announced that the two will be presenting a fusion of their political ideas on Monday.

Polls held previous to the two politicians’ decision put either leftist candidate Gustavo Petro or centrist candidate Enrique Peñalosa in the lead of the mayoral race with Parody and Mockus lagging behind.
