A demobilized paramilitary said he forcibly recruited two youth in northeast Colombia in 1998 and 1999 for paramilitary service, who after their refusal he killed and turned their bodies over to the army as guerrillas killed in combat.
Jorge Enrique Ríos Córdoba, a.k.a. ‘Sarmiento’ or ‘Aluza’, said he intercepted the two at a roadblock and took them to an camp in Córdoba to become members of the United Self Defense Forces of Colombia, or AUC for its Spanish initials.
Faced with their refusals, the paramilitaries dressed the pair in uniforms similar to those used by guerrillas and shot them both, reported Spanish news agency EFE. The youth’s ages were not reported.
Later, their bodies were given to the army, who reported them as guerrilla casualties. The Attorney General is requesting documents from the Justice and Peace law prosecutor to begin an investigation.
