Colombia’s Paola Turbay talks about her role as a 17th-century witch in the HBO’s vampire drama “True Blood,”
Paola (pronounced POW-la) plays the character of Antonia, the spirit of a 400-year old witch who has been wandering, looking for peace, and now is back to cause trouble between the vampires and witches in True Blood’s season four.
According to Colombian daily El Tiempo, Paola Turbay said “the role is very different for me, but sometimes I’m called a witch at home.”
When asked if Paola believed in witches, she said that “some people have a power of sending special energy, people with the power of effecting people in some way. In Colombia they have a saying, ‘I don’t believe in witches, but if they fly, they fly.'”
The Colombian-American actress won the Miss Colombia beauty pageant in 1991, and was a runner-up in the 1992 Miss Universe competition. Turbay’s career has recently taken off in the U.S., where she has played roles in “The Closer,” “Californication,” and “Royal Pains.”
True Blood, which is cable network HBO’s most viewed series since “The Sopranos,” will air episode six of season four on Friday, July 31.
