Colombian prosecutors are investigating 4,634 demobilized paramilitaries and guerrillas for serious human rights crimes as part of the Justice and Peace process.
According to a report released on Monday by the Prosecutor General’s Office, 4,131 of those are former paramilitaries, while 503 are ex-guerrillas.
The specialist Justice and Peace unit of the prosecutor’s office are investigating cases of murder, forced disappearances and displacement, torture, recruitment of minors and rape, violent sexual assaults and forced prostitution and sexual slavery.
Prosecutors have also exhumed 3,451 graves, finding 4,267 bodies. Of those, 1,616 have been fully identified and 911, preliminarily identified, and 1,529 have been returned to their families.
A sub-unit of the Justice and Peace prosecutors has identified and located 4,507 properties to be confiscated and used for reparations for victims and over $2 million to be used as compensation.
