Colombian organizers of the world-wide march against Venezuelan
President Hugo Chavez want government protection after series of threats and attacks on the house of one of them.
According to Miguel Sierra, who in 2008 organized massive marches against the FARC and now tries mobilizing Colombians to protest against Chavez, his house was attacked with cement blocks on two occasions, causing damage to his roof and windows and on one occasion nearly hit one of his family members.
According to the activist, the organization of the march has been receiving numerous threats through telephone and e-mail.
The government did increase security measures in several Colombian cities where anti-Chavez marches are expected to avoid irregularities, but the organizers demand personal protection too.
“Colombia is a country of brave people, but I do not want to sacrifice myself for my country. Weapons kill and I trust in God and the authorities. We have to stop being scared and protest, but I do ask the Government to ensure protection,” Sierra told CM& Noticias.
The anti-Chavez march in Colombia demands of the Venezuelan President to stop his hostile attitude against Colombia and to not meddle in Colombian domestic affairs.
