One minor dead, ten injured in Bogotá school bus crash

One minor died and ten were left injured as a small schoolbus collided with a dump truck in Bogotá’s south Friday morning.

The bus was on its way to Los Soches school in the locality of Usme, when it crashed into the dump truck.

Newpaper El Tiempo reports that the driver of the truck was apparently in a state of intoxication and failed to control his vehicle as it moved to the opposing lane and frontally collided with the bus. However, television channel RCN claims that a technical defect may have caused the truck to become uncontrollable.

Many Colombian children are transported to school every day using these so-called ‘automotores escolares’, which are often no bigger than an regular van.
